The Church of Tango: a Memoir
Saludos desde Buenos Aires!
I just wanted to let you know about my just-published new book, The Church of Tango: a Memoir.
Not a typical tango book, nor a tango history or a how-to, it is my passionate memoir of tragedy and adventure, lust and music, romance and tango, that takes place in four countries. It is my personal story of loss and survival and how I ended up living and teaching tango in Buenos Aires. (I was tempted to subtitle it Death, Dance, Destiny but came to my senses in time.)
It is now available on Amazon in paper and on Kindle.
You can read a review of it here:
http://doniganmerritt.wordpress.com/2012/02/06/one-of-my-rare-reviews/
Un abrazo tanguero,
Cherie Magnus
(Please forgive me if you happen to receive more than one notice about my book; it’s not intentional. Thanks.)

About The Editor:
In addition to overseeing The Argentine Post, I am a Buenos Aires correspondent for Dow Jones. Before this, I spent a decade working in some form or another with media like the Associated Press, Al Jazeera, Argus, Barron’s, Bloomberg, Dow Jones Newswires, McClatchy, The Miami Herald, The Wall Street Journal and USA Today, among others. In 2006-07 I took time off to be a Knight-Wallace Fellow at the University of Michigan, where I studied media law and ethics, especially as these relate to blogging.

“My Life with Him” – a review from Butaca Teatral
“My Life with Him” – a review from Butaca Teatral
(translated from the Spanish by Stephen Page}
The curtain of the Teatro Margarita Xirgu lifts and the stage comes alive with musicians and actors introducing the audience to the love story between Jack (Carlos Zabala) and Anna (Paula Villanuestre). A burning young love that becomes unrequited and lies dormant for decades in the hearts of the two protagonists over decades until fate strikes with a casual and unexpected reunion.
With brilliant character interaction, an audience member might say that “My Life with Him” is a tender rendering of a universal dream. Fito Paez’s empathic music helps the plot move along by strumming the hearts of the audience, and his lyrics are used for dialogue. The third character in the play Angel (Emma) plays an important Venus/Cupid role, and she deserves the standing ovation she received after the opening show.
“My Life with Him” implements simple scenery and a basic wardrobe. Carolina Papaleo geniusly breaks with the structures of the classic love story, and demonstrates commitment to quality theater.

Eternal Youth
In Vilcabamba Ecuador, people live from one hundred thirty to one hundred and forty years.
The people do not have yearly medical examinations. No one is sick. They smoke, drink and regularly use substances most people think are reserved solely for rock stars.
They live very humble lives, the workers as well as the aristocrats–but they all party heavily.
