bio:

I was born on March 4th, so I did. I’ve been marching forth since 1944. My proudest accomplishments have been being a good husband and father to my wife and son, husband to the former for 44 years, father to the latter for 42 years. I was born in Missouri and lived sometimes there sometimes in California until 2006 when I moved to Littleton, Colorado.
I studied art in college at Fullerton, Ca. I soon realized it was EXTREMELY unlikely that I’d be able to earn a living at it, so I  took up poetry. And did other things to make a living. Railroad freight inspector, R&D tech in the microchip industry, coffee house owner, poetry mag publisher, CrossFit instructor. The usual. The coffeehouse and poetry mag didn’t turn out to be contributors to my earning a living but were fun. I’ve had a few poems published (no money), a couple of plays produced locally (a little money), have sold a number of paintings (not as much as they were worth to me, so I stopped selling paintings)and have sold a few hundred little faces carved in avocado pits (ridiculous but profitable). Naturally any fame I’ve had  (on tv twice, was hired to do a likeness of Stacy Keach in avocado pit)has come from the gimmick. I stopped selling the PitHeads c. when they all started looking the same.
When I wear a fullface motorcycle helmet I look as young as anyone and when I ride I feel as young as anyone (and sometimes do stupid things as if I were young). As the saying goes “you don’t stop riding because you get old. You get old because you stop riding”.
Because I’m very vain, scared of being old and sick, and my son owns a CrossFit gym (he is also a police officer), I’ve taken up fitness as a semi-profession and have become a certified CrossFit instructor. I have a website fitnessforclassics.com. “Classics” are people over 50. We’re classic, we’re not just old.

Progress through Alliance

A movie directed by Julio Ludueña

On Wednesday, the 7th of December 2011, on channel Volver, at 12 AM, the movie “Alianza para el Progreso” will air.

This is surrealism and post-modernism at it’s best.  Don’t miss it. It is a unique experience.

Mong-Lan (“Dream Orchid”) once again offers us her passionate world of tango through her masterly paintings on canvas.  Born in Vientam, painter, photographer, writer, poet (Tango, Tangoing: Poems & Art)and tango dancer, Mong-Lan will present her paintings and a tango dance exhibition during the opening, 14 February, in Tango Escuela Carlos Copello, Anchorena 575, in Abasto, Capital Federal, Buenos Aires.  18 – 21 hrs.  The dance exhibition begins at 19:30 hrs.

Mong-Lan writes in her Artist’s Statement:

The internal world flows, yet at times, is punctuated with sharp angles, such as the giros of the tango.  “Without Tears” (“Sin Lágrimas”) refers to the tango of the same name, lyrics written by José María Contursi in 1941.  “No sabes cuánto te he querido / como has de negar que fuiste mía.”  You don’t know how much I loved you / how you had to negate that you were mine.  This song epitomizes the feeling in the tango for me, and brings forth oceans of pain, leaving the lover to work through the psychology of the pain of unrequited love.  In the end, the singer wishes upon the beloved that he/she does not suffer as much as the singer does. (if other lips have kissed you, / and upon kissing you have hurt you, / that you don’t suffer as I.)

In this exhibition, I’ve included my paintings on canvas inspired by the tango.  Couples embrace on the dance floor, in the various poses of desire, longing, and just simple joy.  Some paintings are abstract, states of pure emotion, visual qualities of the heart.  And included also are a few nudes to excite!

“No sabés cuánto te he querido / cómo has de negar que fuiste mía.”
