Cocina Sunae

cocinasunae Last week, my wife, sister-in-law, and I invited a friend out to eat to celebrate her birthday. We went to a restaurant I have wanted to go to for a long time, as I have heard good things about it. The place is called Cocina Sunae. I was not disappointed. In fact, I was very impressed. The hostess and owner, Christina Sunae, met us at the door, and with an affable smile, seated us at a spacious table in an ambient area indoors. Outdoor tables were available also. We ordered a bottle of Chardonnay from a generous wine list offering vintages ranging from reasonable to reserve. As we sipped our wine we were served crunchy fish croquettes with lemon grass and sweet chili dip. We cleansed our palettes with another sip of wine and were served a second appetizer of Vietnamese summer rolls, which are soft rice rolls filled with tender pork, shrimp, noodles, and mint leaves that we dipped in peanut sauce. For the main course we were offered two choices: caramelized pork braised in coconut juice, served with pickled daikon salad and steamed rice; or spicy green curry with coconut milk, shrimp, eggplant and served with steamed rice. Two of us went for the pork and two the curry. All plates were taste-bud bursting. As we sat back and talked, we were offered desert, a choice between Banana puff with coconut milk or homemade green tea ice cream. Again we chose two an two and shared a little. Both deserts were delicious, and just sweet enough to top a meal off and release enough endorphins to turn up the corners of our mouths. Tea was offered and we all said “yes,” choosing from a list of four aromatic digestives. sunaeFor the price, you cannot beat the quality and just-the-right quantity of food–four plates and tea for a reasonable 110 pesos a person. Check the place out. The experience will be a good one. Make a reservation with Christina at reservas@cocinasunae.com cellular: 15 4870 5506.
