Yesterday my wife and I went to the ballet. We love the ballet. For us it is the perfect art form as there is both visual and sound. Instrumental music is used, which many philosophers believe is the perfect language since it may be interpreted regardless of the listener’s tongue. There is movement, so endorphins are released in the observer’s brain. Finally, narrative is implemented and interpreted in non-verbal cues, without any spoken language, so story is told and “heard” without communication failure.
San Martín Theater is a wonderful place to go if you have not been there. It is on Córdoba Avenue, the main theater strip, a kind of Broadway of Buenos Aires. The theater is spacious, acoustically designed, the seats are comfortable, and the stage is seen cleanly from any seat.
The show we saw was brilliant. Three separate contemporary dances of about 20 to 25 minutes apiece, set to three different styles of music (Gershwin, Martínez, and Beethoven), and danced to three different choreographers (Chapeaurouge, Chang, and Stekelman) Attached below is the playbill. If you have not been to San Martín Theater, go. If you have not seen this ballet, see it.
Lastly, San Martín Theatre presents well-produced ballets at affordable prices. Every show I have seen there has impressed me, and ticket prices have always been affordable. The place also shows plays and opera. Go there at least once for a pleasant experience.
